The Summit at Summoning’s 9/5/10

September 10th, 2010 by Shock

Videos from The Summit at Summoning’s are going up right now. If anything, watch them to see Phil knock me out of a tournament for the first time, and the massive projector screen we’re playing on. To put it into perspective, the screen you see is about 12 feet from the camera and the characters are around 3 feet high. The finals were played on a UMK3 cabinet and probably should have been the whole night.

For whatever reason the Finals got set to private but they aren’t anymore. Check them out:

Dark Rob, Tim Static, and 9.95 do a Mortal Kombat episode on Podsumaki

July 26th, 2010 by Tim Static

On Monday, July 19th, 9.95, Dark Rob, and Tim Static were privileged enough to be asked to do an episode of the Podcast, Podsumaki, representing 2D MK players and the MK Community. Shock was supposed to be on, but unfortunately, could not make it. Next time though!

The episode is very long… almost 2.5 hours long. It’s worth a listen as the podcast is funny, and very informative.

Taken from:

http://www.destructoid.com/blogs/Podsumaki/podsumaki-episode-09-mortal-kombat-special-179896.phtml

Today is a very special episode with some very special guests. We’ve got three moderators and tournament players from three Mortal Kombat websites. They came on to discuss the classic games, the potential behind the Mortal Kombat reboot, and the recently growing Mortal Kombat tournament scene.

Your friendly neighborhood Wry Guy is running short on time, so you won’t be getting any extensive notes. Be warned though. This episode is very, very long and is largely controlled by our guests. Don’t worry, we’re still there to talk bullshit. Unfortunately we were TOO WEAK against the incredible knowledge these guys throw at us.

Guest Hosts for this week: 9.95, Tim Static, Dark Rob
Guesting From: UltimateMK.com, ClassicMK.com, MortalKombatEmpires.com

Download Podsumaki Episode 09

Episode Highlights
- Bulkmailer and Char Aznable get their listener questions answered by the MK pros
- Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, the tournament worthy Mortal Kombat we never knew about
- The growing Mortal Kombat tournament scene
- Analysis and fears of why the Mortal Kombat reboot may not be good

I hope everyone enjoys it, and a very special thanks to KD Alpha, Wry Guy, de BLOO, and RAB for having us on. -Phil

UMK3 at Summer Jam in Philadelphia August 14th and 15th.

July 14th, 2010 by Shock

Originally posted here: Summer Jam in Philly

UltimateMK.com will be hosting UMK3, and possibly MKII tournaments at Summer Jam this year. Mostly like MKII will take place on Saturday as a free side game (or at most a $3 entry fee), and if we have time, maybe a free PSX MK Trilogy Tournament, but that’s just an afterthought for now. Big thanks to Big E, who invites to all the majors he runs and we try to be there as often as we can to ensure a smooth tournament with all the necessary tools is possible for the dedicated players who turn out.

UMK3 will be hosted on Sunday and at the very least the top 3 will be streamed. I’m hoping we can get the semis for at least the losers streamed as well, but we’ll take the Winners Losers and Grand Finals. It will be played on MAME, and projected on our own smaller setup (50″ on the wall) for casuals if there there is room, otherwise, it’ll be run on a TV.

We will supply at least 5 different dedicated UMK3 arcade sticks based on our personal inventory, and at least 2 PSX gamepads. Remember, gamepads are very annoying to configure over and over in MAME when someone wants their shoulder buttons a certain way, so please be prepared to play on a specific configuration. We will try to get that squared away if possible early on, so if you have a specific gamepad you wish to play on that you will use for other games, we will need to configure it and make an additional setup for you. It might be best to try what we supply first and see if it works for you.

Right now, for UMK3 we have at least 16 players expected, with more to come so we’re looking at:

UMK3:

1. Shock
2. 9.95
3. Summoning
4. iloveu
5. AC1984
6. SweetJohnnyCage
7. LI MAverick
8. DarkRob
9. Comeback Kyle
10. Julian
11. DreemerNJ
12. BlueIX
13. Kona
14. Flare
15. Steve N.
16. Al Dagod
17. JusDave
18. Malevolencia
19. Juggneetto
20. REO
21. MRIGOTBASS
22. Sans Power
23.
24.

If this list holds, we’ll most likely exceed 20 with additional players. If any players are missing from the “likely to be there” list, let me know. If the tournament reaches 32 players, Eric will throw in another $50 to the pot.
